Title Block Analysis

By looking at this title block of this magazine I can tell that the genre of music this magazine is about is rock/punk. The dark colours tell me that the magazine is about X-Rated stories such as parties, drink, and drugs. The black represents bad and mischief. This colour has been used to appeal to the right audience; the right audience are likely to be goth/emo/teenagers who are interested in loud screaming music. The font tells me that the magazine is rebellious and radical. It also tells me that the magazine covers stories that are ‘’of the rail’’ or stories that wouldn’t be published in other magazines. This connotes that the magazine has a unique feel to it and has certain stories that it covers. It wants the reader to feel cool when they pick up a KERRANG magazine. The title itself tells me that this magazine is meant to be cool and trendy to read. It also makes me feel that the magazine is almost illegal because the title is broken and looks like something a criminal would do. This might infer that the magazine is for people who like illegal things. The title tells me that the target audience are people who like illegal stories and stories that are about rebelling rock stars. Also, they would normally like going to concerts and would most likely be aged from 17- 30.

When looking at the "Q" title block, I can tell that the genre of music that the magazine is about is classical and music that the average person would like. The type of music that you would find on the radio or on the charts. The colours suggest that the magazine is professional and slick. For example the white letter Q stands out from the red background to show that the letter Q is the name of the magazine. The font type looks very classy and italic. This suggests that the magazine is for adults and mature viewers as it wouldn't really appeal to a younger person who would prefer bubble writing or graffiti. The title is simply a letter Q which implies to me that he magazine bases it's stories on interviewing artist. This is because the letter Q normally symbolises the word questions. The target audience for this magazine is normally the average person who likes any type of music. The title block isn't particularly designed after any style unlike kerrang which has a grunge and rock feel to it's block. This plain Q title block suggests that it doesn't want to single out a particular group of people and wants to appeal to more that one type of audience.

The rolling stone title block makes me think that the magazine covers a genre of music such as rock and roll. The colours red and white have been used to maybe symbolise the country the magazine it was made in. Americas flag is mainly red and white and so is the rolling stone title block. The font used tells me that the magazine is about pretty old music as I see the font as an old out of date font that has been used many times. This connotes that the magazine wants to appeal to the older audience who like older music. The title itself is names after a famous rock band. This tells me that the magazine bases it's image on them and wants people to buy there magazine simply because the magazine supports the Rolling Stones. The target audience are those older people who enjoyed rock and roll in the 70s and 80s. This is implied through the use of old font in the title block.
